The Public Health Ministry on Tuesday reported 16 more deaths from the influenza A(H1N1)virus last week, bringing the total death toll from the flu to 97.The ministry expected the fatality rate to drop in the next three to four weeks.Health deputy permanent secretary Dr Paijit Warachit said the spread of the virus in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces had slowed. In other provinces, the spread of the virus among people aged 6 to 20 years had slowed down. This implied that the screening of sick students at schools was working. However, infections among farmers and company employees were still rising, so the ministry had to work harder in controlling the spread of the virus in communities.Dr Paijit said the number of days it took patients to recover after being treated with oseltamivir anti-viral medication had also fallen -- from 7 days to 5 to 6 days.
